Employees of NLMK Ural and NLMK-Ural Service filed 97 initiatives aimed at improving production and business processes in the first quarter of 2017. This is +27% vs. the same period in 2016. Currently, 92 initiatives have been approved for implementation of the total.
Initiatives are one of the tools of NLMK's Production System, rolled out at NLMK Long's plants since 2013. Under this programme each employee can suggest ways to improve production. Employees whose initiatives have been accepted for implementation receive a cash bonus, as well as additional compensation in case their initiative brings in gains to the company.
In 2016, 269 initiatives were approved. The total gains from implementation of the most efficient ones exceeded 1 million rubles. One of such initiatives was a proposal to optimize the slag practice for steel grade 80.
"Having analysed the chemical composition of furnace slag using steel grade 80, I developed a set of measures to reduce the overall lime and dolomite consumption. In addition to reducing the consumption of slag-forming materials by 18%, the optimization of the slag practice allowed to reduce the consumption of electricity and electrodes, as well as to increase productivity by 1.6%” - says Konstantin Vdovin, head of the technical department at NLMK Ural.
